The former residence of the famous Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu when he lived in Chengdu. Du Fu lived here for nearly four years and wrote hundreds of poems. Therefore, this place is regarded as the "sacred place" in the history of Chinese literature. Today's Du Fu Thatched Cottage was restored many times in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The thatched cottage is located by the Huanhua River outside the west gate of Chengdu. There are many pavilions and towering ancient trees in the garden. After entering from the main entrance, the three main buildings of Daxie, Shishi Hall and Gongbu Temple are arranged on the central axis from south to north. To the northeast of Gongbu Temple is the Shaoling Stele Pavilion and the former residence of the great poet. To the east of the thatched house is the bonsai garden, and to the south are Huanhua Temple, Huajing, Daya Hall and the thatched showroom near the south gate.
Daya Hall was originally the main hall of Caotang Temple, named after the Northern Song Dynasty writer Huang Tingjian's "Da Ya Tang Ji". It was officially opened in 2002. The three characters "Da Ya Tang" on the plaque on the door are the characters of Yan Zhenqing, a famous calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty. Daya Hall displays the largest large-scale colored glaze inlaid lacquer mural in China so far and 12 sculptures of famous poets of past dynasties, vividly displaying the life of Du Fu and the development history of Chinese classical poetry.
Iconic Landscape - Former Residence of Thatched Cottage
The former residence of the thatched cottage was rebuilt by referring to the characteristics of the folk houses in western Sichuan, and became the iconic landscape of Du Fu Thatched Cottage. In the bonsai garden on the east side of the hut, there is the "Du Poetry Calligraphy Woodcut Gallery" built in 1999, displaying more than a hundred pieces of Du Poem calligraphy woodcut works, including "Du's poems are sung, calligraphy is excellent, nanmu is excellent, and carving is unique". Because Du Fu used to be an employee of the Jiedu Staff Inspection Department, it was called Du Gongbu, and the temple got its name from this. The ancestral hall has three couplets in one house, bright pillars on the mountain, high terraces and stone steps, and flower-pane doors, solemn and solemn. There are stone statues of Du Fu in the Ming and Qing dynasties in the temple, among which the bust of Du Fu carved in the 30th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1602) is the earliest stone statue left in the thatched cottage.
In front of Du Fu's hut, there was a path full of flowers and trees on both sides. He once wrote in his poem: "The flower path has never been swept by guests, and the Pengmen is now opened for the king." Today's flower path is a small path with red walls that connects the memorial complex of Du Fu Thatched Cottage and the original Caotang Temple. At the end of the flower path is the "Caotang Shadow Wall", the word "Caotang" inlaid with blue and white broken porcelain by Yin Zhou Shanpei, Sichuan Quanye Daoist in the late Qing Dynasty Here, it has been damaged and repaired several times.
There are three gates in the cottage, the main gate and the south gate are located in the south of the cottage, and the north gate is in the northwest. The main entrance and the south gate are not far apart, and most tourists come in and out through these two gates.
