The two bridges were built in the 12th year of the Showa era (1937), and they are collectively called the "Eternal Everlasting Bridge". Before the Alishan Highway was opened, the only way to enter Alishan was through this bridge.

At that time, the Japanese built the "Eternal Long Bridge" to celebrate the birthdays of the Emperor Showa (Emperor Hirohito) and the Empress (Ryoko, Empress Xiangchun), because the birthday of the Emperor in Japan is called "Tianchang Festival" and the birthday of the Empress Dowager is called "Earth". Therefore, the two bridges are named "Tianchang Bridge" and "Dijiu Bridge" respectively, and they are collectively called "Forever and Forever" bridges to wish the emperor and his concubine a happy marriage and "forever and forever".
