Gahai Ancient City is located in Gahai Village, Ganzihe Township, Haiyan County, surrounded by lush lakeside grasslands, on the only way from Haiyan to Gangcha.
The ancient city of Gahai is 435 meters long from east to west and 436 meters wide from north to south, forming a square shape. The city wall is 12 meters wide and 4.8 meters high, built with rammed earth, and the rammed earth layer is 6 centimeters thick. There is a gate on each side of the city. The height is the base of the original house. Among the unearthed items are five baht coins of the Han Dynasty, gray pottery fragments, and residual bronze mirrors. The city is a provincial key cultural relics protection unit.
Gahai Ancient City is one of the five cities in the ancient city pool around Qinghai Lake. It was built at the same time as the Triangle City of Haiyan County. The city chose the lakeside grassland with lush water and grass. The ancient city is located in the eastern hinterland of the flat and open Ganzi River grassland surrounded by mountains and rivers. It used to be the center of Qiang people's activities in history, belonging to the category of Tugu culture. During the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, the Huns were conquered in the north and the Qiangs were expelled in the west. As a result, many Qiang people in the Huangshui River Basin were forced to relocate to the northern part of Qinghai Lake. Therefore, Qiang people gathered here in history and enjoyed unprecedented prosperity.
