Gahai is a saltwater lake about 30 kilometers away from Delingha City, and it is an important wetland in the Qaidam Basin. Artemia eggs are an important bait in the aquaculture industry. The price once soared to 700,000 yuan per ton, known as "soft gold".

Gannan's largest freshwater lake is an important wetland in the eastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The area where Gahai Lake is located is called "Cuoning" by Tibetans, which means "the place where yaks walk around". Gahai Lake is rich in water and grass, and many rare birds that migrate from south to north settle and breed here.
