Gaer Temple is a monastery of the Zhigong Kagyu Sect. It is located on a high mountain with an altitude of more than 3,700 meters and is divided into upper temple and lower temple. The north side of the mountain is full of strange peaks and cliffs, and the cold wind is steep, but the south side is slightly sloped, warm and sunny. Hundreds of buildings in Gaer Temple are irregularly distributed on the big hillside in the south of the mountain, from bottom to top to the top of the mountain.

Near Ga'er Temple, there are alpine grasslands, ancient salt-drying ponds, virgin forests and forest streams. What is rare is that this section has a canyon forest landscape that is rare on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Since the monks in the monastery have always adhered to the idea of great compassion and equality of life advocated by Buddhism, the monks have lived in harmony with the animals in the mountains for many years and never killed them. There are a variety of higher animals such as macaques, elks, foxes, wolves, and snow leopards, and nearly a hundred species of birds such as snow chickens, eagles, and vultures. Over time, the monks here have become friends with the animals in the mountains. Some macaques, blue sheep and other animals also often come in and out of the monastery to have close contact with the monks.
