Qutan Temple is called "Zhuocang Lagodandai" in Tibetan, also known as "Zhuocang Dorje Qiang", which means "Leduji Vajra Buddha Temple". The temple is surrounded by mountains and rivers, and its overall layout is a rectangle, covering an area of 1.5 hectares. This is a surprising outlier among the many Tibetan Buddhist temples in the Amdo region, reminiscent of the Han-style Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Beijing and Chengde. If you only have time to see one temple in eastern Qinghai and are interested in ancient architecture and mural art, Qutan Temple is your best choice. The temple is a relatively large temple in the Nanshan area of Ledu, and it is also a relatively complete group of Ming Dynasty buildings in Northwest China. Its overall structure and layout are similar to the Forbidden City in Beijing, so it is called "Little Forbidden City". Qutan Temple has experienced more than 600 springs and autumns since its establishment in the Hongwu period of Ming Dynasty. This temple is well-known in the northwest for its majestic simplicity, precious cultural relics and huge color murals with high artistic value. It is one of the famous flower festival areas in the province.
