The park, located in the northwest suburb of Golmud, gets its name from General Mu Shengzhong, the founder of the city. There is a small and quaint two-story building in the park. It is said that this is the first building erected within a thousand miles above the Gobi Gobi. It ushers in a new era in the history of Golmud.

Just after the Spring Festival in 1954, General Mu Shengzhong led his transportation team to the banks of the Golmud River after a five-day trek. Here is full of uncanny handicrafts of nature, but there are no streets, trees and houses. The general and his troops set up camp here, and built a nest in the wilderness.

It was not until 1956 that the residents began to make bricks and burn bricks to build houses, and built the General Building. From then on, Golmud bid farewell to the ancient wildness, and had a great cause to change the world. From a few tents in the vast Gobi Desert to Golmud, Qinghai's second city with "half green trees and half towers", the mirage on the Gobi Desert has finally become a reality.

Next to the general building is a bungalow built at the same time, which is an auxiliary building (commonly known as the aircraft building), where General Mu Shengzhong lived. Visitors are free to walk around outside the building, but all rooms are closed to the public.
