On December 20, 1999, the day of Macao's return to the motherland, the large-scale cast bronze sculpture "Flourishing Lotus" presented by the State Council of China was unveiled at the Golden Lotus Square in front of the auditorium. The main part of "Flourishing Lotus" is composed of stems, petals and stamens, with a total of 16 shapes, cast in bronze, with gold on the surface, weighing 6.5 tons; the base part is composed of 23 pieces of red granite stacked together. The total height of the sculpture is 6 meters, and the larger diameter of the flower body is 3.6 meters. The lotus is the regional flower of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The lotus is in full bloom, slim and rising, symbolizing the eternal prosperity of Macao. The three-layered red granite base is shaped like a lotus leaf, implying the three islands of Macau.
