In 2008, Guoluo Horseback Tibetan Opera was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage.

Horseback Tibetan Opera was first created in Longen Temple, Gande County, Guoluo Prefecture. It is a unique opera created on the basis of Tibetan opera. Because it is mainly spread in Guoluo Prefecture, it is called "Guoluo Horseback Tibetan Opera".

In the early 1990s, horseback Tibetan opera gradually spread in Gannan, Gansu, Ganzi, Aba, Qinghai and other Tibetan-inhabited areas in Sichuan.

Horseback Tibetan Opera is regarded as an auspicious dance by Tibetan herdsmen. It mainly performs Gesar epic stories. The actors are all monks in the temple, and laymen do not participate.

Every major festival or special moment, actors will wear traditional costumes, ride horses, gallop on the open grass, and act in the story of Gesar.
