The Jiayuguan Guerrilla General Mansion, also known as the Guerrilla Yamen, was first built in the Longqing period of the Ming Dynasty, and later became the place where the guerrilla generals guarding Jiayuguan in the Ming and Qing Dynasties handled military government affairs. The current building was restored on the basis of the original building in 1987. It is a quadrangle courtyard with two courtyards and three halls, covering an area of 1,755 square meters and a building area of 808 square meters.
In the ancient military history of Jiayuguan, the Guerrilla General’s Mansion was not only the command center of Jiayuguan’s Great Wall defense system, but also a pivotal institution for the imperial court to rule the place, check the exchanges of merchants and envoys, and contact the Western Regions, Central Asia and various ethnic minorities.
Jiayuguan Guerrilla General Mansion display is divided into two parts. The front yard is centered on the meeting hall, which focuses on displaying the scenes of ancient guerrilla generals and civil and military officials commanding and defending against the enemy, and issuing customs documents. The backyard is the place where the guerrilla generals and their families live, vividly showing the life scenes of the guerrilla generals and their families. The display form is both simple and ornamental, making it a highlight of visiting and visiting Jiayuguan.
