Guangming Theater, commonly known as the Old Theater, was invested by Ge, Wang, Song, Zhang, and Han in Hejian City in 1934, and was built in the style of Tianjin's "Big Stage". It has the architectural characteristics of a combination of Chinese and Western, and the courtyard faces south. After its completion, celebrities from famous schools and genres in the opera world have come here to perform on stage. The gate face is made of artificial stone, and the tall plaque has two big characters of "Guangming" inscribed on it. It was written in ink by Hua Shikui, a famous calligrapher in Tianjin at that time. It is said that the reward is dozens of dollars. In 1945, after Hejian was liberated, the Jizhong Administrative Office and the Jizhong Military Region were located in Hejian, and some important meetings were also held in the Guangming Theater. On the evening of November 2, 1947, when Commander-in-Chief Zhu De visited Jizhong, he watched the performance of the Central Old Opera Experimental Institute here. Since its completion in 1958, Guangming Theater has been the only larger and more complete venue for theatrical performances in Hejian. It was once renamed "Peace Theater" after liberation. The structure of this theater is very delicate, with the stage at the front, the dormitory at the back, and two rows of vermilion pillars on the east and west sides. There are boxes on both sides of the upper floor, which can accommodate more than a thousand people. The seats for the audience are chairs; in the square at the bottom of the railing of the theater building, there are paintings of flowers, birds and figures by Chen Tieshan, a well-known painter at that time; the painting of "Eight Immortals" directly above the stage is quite delicate. This magnificent, old-fashioned and foreign-style theater was second to none among the county towns in Hebei Province at that time. In the past, it was privately owned. People spent more than a dozen coppers to buy a theater ticket, and one yuan to buy a box ticket. Sitting in the theater and listening to the play was a great spiritual enjoyment. Each box has a small square table, several chairs, teapots and tea bowls, and some fruits on the table. There are also tea stoves and towels in the garden, and the service is very attentive.
