The Great Buddha Temple is a Chinese Buddhist temple. It is understood that there was a group of ancient temples in Hongshan, which were successively built around 1797. The ancient temple group of the original Great Buddha Temple is along the foot of the Red Mountain, arranged from east to west: the East End is the Great Buddha Temple, the middle is the Jade Emperor Temple, and the west end is the Dizang Temple. Back then, the Hongshan Ancient Temple Group was a collection of classical buildings in Urumqi, and it was also a tourist attraction for temple fairs. During temple fairs, all the temples in Hongshan were open to perform performances for the gods, and the offerings were endless.

Later, when Hongshan Park was expanded, the gate of the ancient temple was in disrepair for a long time and was on the verge of collapse. In order to protect the cultural relics and restore the landscape, the gate of the Great Buddha Temple was moved to the top of the mountain as it was, and the main hall, wing rooms and scripture pavilion of the Great Buddha Temple were rebuilt. The main buildings of the Great Buddha Temple are the Daxiong Hall, the Avalokitesvara Hall and the Ksitigarbha Hall, and the statues include Sakyamuni, Maitreya Buddha, Avalokitesvara, Ksitigarbha, and the Four King Kongs.

The current Great Buddha Temple is located on the north side of the park. It is an antique temple that can be used for tourists to worship Buddha and pray for blessings. This Buddhist temple in Urumqi, which is full of mosques, is very special.
