Near the county seat of Tengchong County in the west of Yunnan Province, there is a natural wonder of geothermal hot springs. These hot springs were formed due to local volcanic activity. According to expert surveys, the youngest volcanic group—the Quaternary volcanoes—is still preserved in Tengchong, and more than 60 craters have been discovered in the county. Xu Xiake, a geographer in the Ming Dynasty, recorded in detail the volcanic remains and hot springs in Tengchong in his book. There are more than 80 steam springs and hot spring groups formed in Tengchong due to volcanic activities, and the water temperature of the hot springs is as high as 90 ℃.
There are many strange landscapes here, the most distinctive one is the large and small rolling pots. The big rolling pot is a basin-shaped boiling pool, about 1.5 meters deep, with boiling water at 97°C all the year round, with loud noises and soaring steam. When tourists go to Atami, they just need to dig a small hole in the ground, put a lunch box containing rice and vegetables in the hole, and the food will be cooked in less than half an hour. The local people also use the air vents by the spring, put straws on them, steam sweet potatoes and potatoes, and boil eggs in the "big boiling pot" hot spring, which can be eaten immediately. Now, people have built holiday hotels in this area, and tourists from home and abroad come in droves. When you come here, you can not only watch the geothermal wonders, but also take a hot spring bath and eat a hot spring boiled egg, which is also a very pleasant thing.
