Hougou Ancient Village is an ancient village with a long history in Yuci District. Its written history can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. The delicate and unique ancient stage, Guanyin Hall, and Bodhisattva Hall in the village can be called the living fossils of northern folk culture, fully reflecting the traditional "divine authority" and "clan authority". The temple system of Hougou ancient village is quite complete. There are 13 temples and 18 statues in the villages with a radius of less than one square kilometer, including Guanyin Temple, Zhenwu Temple, Guandi Temple, Wenchang Pavilion, Kuixing Tower, River Temple, and Mountain Temple. Such temples integrate Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism into one, which is still rare in China. There are a large number of various types of earthen cave dwellings unique to the north in the village, most of which are located near the mountains. The courtyards include siheyuan, 32 three-entry courtyards, and seven or eight courtyards dominated by cliff cave dwellings. Louyaoyuan is the cave dwelling of the village head, 26 meters deep and 3 meters wide. It is also a typical representative of cave dwellings in Hougou Ancient Village. Its various earthen cave dwellings can be called the complete collection of northern cave dwellings. The ancient village drainage system was built by the ancestors of the ancient village to prevent soil erosion. Many courtyards in the village are located on the waterway, but there has never been any blockage or collapse. The specific year and month when the drainage project of Hougou Ancient Village was built is just like the history of Hougou—"The years are far away, and the depth is unknown."
