Howlei is a village with a well-preserved ethnic culture. It is also an ethnic village that has been declared a world cultural heritage. Zenlei Village currently has 58 households with 250 people, basically a village with eleven surnames. They have lived and multiplied in the depths of the vast Miaoling mountains for more than ten generations, more than 200 years. Looking from a distance, Zenlei is on the high mountainside, behind the village are mountain beams covered with green trees, and in front of the village are terraced fields full of golden rice. The terraced fields go down layer by layer, and in the deep valley is the Dujiang River that winds south. The village is built according to the mountain situation, all of which are wooden buildings with stilts and small blue tiles, without any materials such as cement, tiles and glass. The houses of each household are high and low, with distinct layers, and do not block the light and sight of each other. The whole village looks loose and dense. It is also connected with each other, simple and vivid. The sun is warm, the clouds are white and the fields are blue. The village and the mountain blend together, and the green daisy and golden yellow are inlaid together, which is picturesque and poetic. People can't help but praise: it's really a wonderful place.
