Huangyaguan Great Wall is located in the north of Jixian County, Tianjin. It is a section of the ancient Great Wall that was first built in the Northern Qi Dynasty and rebuilt by Qi Jiguang in the Ming Dynasty. This section of the Great Wall has steep mountains, the Great Wall is magnificent, and there are not many tourists. There are many farmhouses at the foot of the Great Wall where you can stay and eat, which is a good place for weekend leisure and vacation in the Beijing-Tianjin area.

Huangyaguan Great Wall has two entrances, east and west. The east side is Taipingzhai, and the west side is the main entrance Huangyaguan. The distance between the two entrances is 2.2 kilometers. Walk along the Great Wall from one entrance to the other. That's it, it takes about 1-2 hours to climb the Great Wall. In addition, there is another pass city at the main pass of Huangya that you can visit, and the total tour time in the scenic spot is about 3 hours.


Generally, tourists will first arrive outside the main pass of Huangya, but it is not recommended to enter the scenic spot here. The recommended way is to arrive at the entrance of Taipingzhai first, and then go to the main pass of Huangya after entering, so that the road is downhill all the way. Save energy, and the main farmhouses are also near the main pass of Huangya, so you can check in and rest directly after playing, which is more comfortable without going back. There is a battery car between the two entrances, the journey takes about half an hour (15 kilometers of mountain roads), and the ticket is 30 yuan per person.

Entering the entrance of Taipingzhai, you will first see a huge statue of Qi Jiguang in the scenic area, commemorating this famous general who rebuilt the Great Wall and presided over the war here, and you can take pictures as a souvenir. Entering from behind the statue, you will come to the Great Wall, and you can walk along the road. The advantage of entering from here is that you can go all the way down, which saves energy. However, this section of the Great Wall is relatively steep, so you should be extra careful when walking. When playing on the road, you can see that the hillside next to it is very steep, exposing a yellow rock wall, which is why Huangyaguan got its name. In the evening, the setting sun shines on the mountain wall very beautifully. Here is the "Yellow Cliff Sunset", one of the ten scenic spots in Jinmen. Photographers must not miss it. Touring along the Great Wall, you will pass through the Widow Building, Tazigou, Guancheng, etc. Many Guancheng have unique stories. For example, the Widow Building was donated by the widows of the soldiers who died while building the Great Wall. Very touching, you can visit and commemorate it.

Walking to the end point is the main pass of Huangya. There is a pass city here, which also becomes the Bagua City. The entire city is an ancient quadrangle-style building, the interior is intricate but square, also known as the Eight Diagrams Maze, it is very good to look down and take pictures. There are also simple Great Wall Museum, Forest of Steles, and gardens in Guancheng, which can be viewed at will.

From Guancheng to the west, there is also the Great Wall to watch and visit. If you are physically strong enough, you can go and have a look. Walking uphill for about 500 meters, you can see the Huangya Ladder. This is the most precipitous and primitive section of the Huangyaguan Great Wall. The slope is extremely high, as if leading to the sky, suitable for taking pictures. At the end, you can also see a section of the Northern Qi Great Wall that has been preserved to this day, which is very old and primitive.

After the tour, you can leave the scenic spot from the main pass of Huangya, and you can return on the same day, or you can stay here for one night. There are some simple farmhouses nearby, where you can eat and stay. The standard room of the farmhouse is about 100 yuan each. You can taste the farmhouse food here, breathe the fresh air, and enjoy the authentic rural life.
