Huangyuan Gorge is located between 35 kilometers and 90 kilometers of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. The Huangshui River runs obliquely through the northern part of Huangyuan County from northwest to southeast. "The gable valley basin constitutes the "Three Gorges", namely Xishi Gorge, Bayan Gorge, and Yaoshui Gorge. On both sides of the canyon, there are Cuiwei mountains, towering bee peaks, high mountains facing each other, and thousands of cliffs.
Due to its dangerous terrain, Huangyuan Gorge has been known as "the throat of sea Tibet" since ancient times. The entire gorge is full of high mountains, jagged rocks, rushing rivers and picturesque scenery, especially the petroglyphs and stone carvings carved on the cliffs, which make passing guests abandon their cars and set foot in to watch.
