Huitengxile means "cold plateau" in Mongolian. The grassland is located in the south-central part of Chayou Middle Banner of Wumeng, at the northern foot of Yinshan Mountain. There are 99 natural lakes dotted on the grassland, known as "Ninety-Nine Springs". It has both the vast and majestic style of pastoral grasslands and the bright and delicate colors of Jiangnan water towns. Huitengxile Grassland is cold in winter and cool in summer. It has been a famous summer resort since ancient times. Every May to September is the tourist season here, flowers are everywhere, and it is one of the rare plateau wetlands in the country.
The local people believe that most of the lakes on the grasslands are formed in the ground springs, so they usually call the lakes springs. This is a prehistoric volcanic belt. The volcanic eruption formed countless "volcanic pits". After a few years, weeds grew and rainwater accumulated, forming a round Haizi. According to legend, Genghis Khan, a generation of Tianjiao, once hung his whip at the "Ninety-Nine Springs" to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountains. Because there were not enough springs, he left without love, and the Yuan Empire failed to establish its capital here.
It is said that these 99 lakes are as calm as a mirror. Jiujiuquan is like a mother's milk feeding and nourishing all living things in Huiteng Xile. There are green mountains and beautiful waters here, magnificent and colorful. The scenic spots are mainly divided into two major places, Conggou and Huanghuatan, with a total of 15 major landscapes.
Here, you can ride horses, camels, archery, shoot, watch Mongolian wrestling performances, climb Obo Mountain, visit herdsmen’s homes, taste ethnic milk food and milk tea, eat hand-steaked meat, drink kumiss... In these rich and varied activities, you can feel the rough and natural Mongolian customs.
