The Inner Mongolia Art Museum was originally built in 1957. In 1992, the leaders of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region decided to demolish the old art museum and rebuild the Inner Mongolia Art Museum on the original site. It was completed and officially opened on April 16, 1997. The main project was capped on September 31, 2015, and officially opened on August 4, 2017. The Inner Mongolia Art Museum is located on Xibazha Airport Road, Saihan District, Hohhot (the intersection of Xinhua East Street and East Second Ring Road). It is the only venue in the autonomous region to collect Chinese and foreign art works on behalf of the country, conduct academic research on art, and display plastic arts to the society.
