There are more than 5,000 monks in this temple, and there are 70 small temples around it. It is a large-scale temple in Kham.

The main buildings of the temple are well preserved. There are hundreds of Buddha statues and statues of eminent monks in the scripture hall, thousands of square meters of murals and numerous Thangka paintings, which can be said to have gathered the wisdom of the skilled craftsmen of Changdu.

Legend has it that Tsongkhapa, the master of the Gelug Sect, was on his way to study scriptures at the age of 16. When he passed the beautiful place where the two rivers meet, he predicted that this place would be a place to promote Buddhism. When the temple was built, Xirao Sangbu went to teach scriptures for alms in a thousand households, and the thousand households dedicated their pastures as the site for building the temple. It is said that the location of Sangdui Zhacang, one of the five major Zhacang in the temple, is the place where thousands of households set up yak tents.
