Jianshui Confucian Temple is located in the northwest corner of Jianshui County. It was first built in the Yuan Dynasty and has a history of more than 600 years. After expansion in the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is currently the third largest Confucian Temple except Qufu Confucian Temple in Shandong and Confucian Temple in Beijing.

Jianshui Confucian Temple has three gates: East Gate, West Gate and South Gate. Visitors generally enter from the south gate, and the east gate faces the Confucius Cultural Square, and some people enter from this gate. The Confucian Temple covers an area of ​​114 mu. The overall layout adopts the central axis symmetrical palace style, which is built in the style of Qufu Confucian Temple. It sits north and faces south, with a total of six courtyards and a depth of 625 meters. , Five Temples, and Eight Squares are large in scale, rigorously regulated, majestic and majestic, solemn and solemn. Stepping into the gate of the Confucian Temple, you will face the solemn and solemn "Taihe Yuanqi Square", and below it is the "Study Sea (Panchi)" of more than 20 acres. On the right, there are "Limen" and "Yilu".

Climb several stone steps from the lip of Xuehaihou, and you will see the "Zhusi Yuanyuan" memorial archway in front of you. Framed archway. The eaves of the square are densely decorated with delicate brackets, which are very delicate. On the lintel on the back of the "Zhusi Yuanyuan" square, there are four words "Grandmaster of Wanshi". There are also four memorial archways with brick bases and civil roofs in the east-west direction behind the archway, each nine meters high, with the words "virtuous match heaven and earth", "dao crown ancient and modern", "sanctuary Yuzi" and "Xianguan near Yang". There are more than 20 stone steles on display in the open space, recording the process of building Confucian temples during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and they are precious historical materials for studying ancient frontier culture and education.

Behind it is the Dacheng Gate, decorated with drum nails, and there is a relief of a flying dragon in the middle of the stone steps in front of the gate. Walking in the door, it is the Dacheng Hall, the main building of the Confucian Temple. The most attractive place in the Confucian Temple is undoubtedly the Dacheng Hall. The Dacheng Hall has five large bays, supported by twenty giant pillars five meters high, including twenty-two bluestone pillars, which are all chiseled and ground from a single block of stone, and dragons and phoenixes are carved on the stone pillars. On the lintel of the Dacheng Hall hangs three gilded plaques with the words "Temple of the First Master". In the center of the hall is a memorial tablet for Confucius. There are more than 100 animal patterns carved on the screen doors on both sides, all of which are exquisitely carved and lifelike.

Behind the Dacheng Hall are more than ten inscriptions left over from the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Among them, Emperor Wuzong in the first year of the Great Yuan Dynasty bestowed upon Confucius the title of "King Wenxuan, the Most Sacred King of Dacheng", which is the oldest existing inscription in southern Yunnan. Further back is the Chongsheng Hall, where Confucius’ parents are worshipped, with carved beams and painted buildings, echoing the Dacheng Hall, which is magnificent. The stone railings in front of the hall are engraved with the twenty-four scenes of West Lake in Hangzhou. On the east side of the hall, there are Cangsheng Temple, Jingxian Temple and other buildings, all of which are exquisite in craftsmanship and have considerable ornamental value.

In ancient times, the Confucian Temple was not only a Taoist temple for respecting Confucius and Confucianism, but also a place for running schools. The Confucian Temple played an important role in the reason why Jianshui City was able to become a "famous state for literature" in southern Yunnan. So far, many students still come to the Confucian Temple to pray for success before the exam.
