Jiaohe Ancient City is located about 10 kilometers west of Turpan City. It was founded by the Cheshi people from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD. It was very prosperous in the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the Tang Dynasty. Later, due to successive years of wars, the ancient city was abandoned and became a ruin. At present, this ancient city is a complete urban relic preserved for more than two thousand years in our country, and it is very worth visiting. The ancient city has a large area, more than 1,600 meters long from north to south, and about 300 meters wide from east to west. It is divided into temples, residential buildings, government offices and other parts. The buildings in the ancient city are all made of loess, which is very distinctive. And now such a spectacular ruin of earthy yellow also has a sense of vicissitudes of history, which is suitable for photography. There is no clear route to visit Jiaohe Old City, just stroll around the scenic spot to watch and take pictures, generally about 2 hours is appropriate. The layout of the ancient city is roughly divided into three parts. A north-south road with a length of about 350 meters and a width of about 10 meters divides the residential area into two parts, east and west. There is a large-scale monastery at the north end of the avenue, and it forms the northern monastery area with it as the center. There is also a group of magnificent pagodas built on the north of the city, which may be the pagodas where eminent monks of all ages are buried. There is a magnificent underground house in the southeast, with an 11-meter-square patio on the top. According to investigations, it may be the residence of Anxi Duhufu, and later the government office of Tianshan County. There are many handicraft workshops in the west. On both sides of the avenue are tall and thick earthen walls, and behind the wall is a "square" divided by criss-crossing alleys. In the "square", there are residential sites and handicraft workshops such as textiles, wine making, and shoemaking. In addition, there are former military camps on the east side of the ancient city, and the rest are ancient dwellings with all kinds of functions.
