Located on the central axis of Beijing, Jingshan Park was the royal garden of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The middle peak in the park used to be the commanding height of the old Beijing city. The pavilion on the middle peak is called "Wanchun Pavilion". Great place for a panoramic view of the Forbidden City.
Tour route and time
Jingshan Park has three gates, east, west and south, and most tourists enter from the south gate (opposite the Shenwu Gate of the Forbidden City). The area of the park is small, and there are quite a lot of scenic spot signs. It usually takes 15-20 minutes to go from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain.
Wanchun Pavilion overlooks the panorama of the Forbidden City
If you look at the Wanchun Pavilion, you can see the panorama of the Forbidden City in the south; you can see the Bell and Drum Tower on the central axis in the north; you can see the White Pagoda in the North Sea in the west; Of course, this is under the premise that there is no smog in Beijing. In front of the Wanchun Pavilion, there is also a sign of "Beijing City Center", which is the center of the capital.
The old locust tree where Emperor Chongzhen hanged himself
There is also a well-known scenic spot in the park, which is the place where Emperor Chongzhen of Ming Dynasty hanged himself. At the east foot of Jingshan Mountain, there used to be an old locust tree. It is said that when Li Zicheng invaded Beijing at the end of the year, Emperor Chongzhen fled here and hanged himself with his own belt. During the ten-year turmoil, the old pagoda tree was cut down as the "four olds". In 1981, a new ancient pagoda tree was transplanted on the original site.
Other buildings and sights
The main buildings in Jingshan include: the Qiwang Tower for offering sacrifices to Confucius; the Shouhuang Hall behind Jingshan Mountain (a place for the Ming and Qing emperors to rest, store portraits and worship ancestors); the Yongsi Hall and Guande Hall on the east side As well as Huguo Zhongyi Temple and five peak pavilions.
Jingshan Park is now also a leisure place for Beijing citizens to sing and dance. You can see many folk choirs singing revolutionary songs and folk songs here. When the weather is good, some locals like to get off work and go directly to the top of the park to enjoy and photograph the sunset.
There are tens of thousands of peonies, peonies and other flowers in the park, and there are flower exhibitions in spring, summer and autumn. In addition, there is a shooting service point in the park, where you can change into Qing Dynasty costumes and take pictures of emperors or grids, which requires an additional fee.
