It is located outside the south gate of Jiuxian Village, 35 kilometers southeast of Hequ County. Founded in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, it was burned down by the peasant uprising army at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and rebuilt during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty.
Haichao Nunnery is built along with the mountain, high in the north and low in the south. The temple sits north to south, and the overall building structure is rigorous, small and exquisite. Outside the temple is surrounded by mountains and water, towering ancient locust trees, inside the temple are evergreen pines and cypresses, and cigarettes are lingering.
Now there are more than 70 halls and houses, and more than 20 statues. It includes a mountain gate, the main hall, the Bodian hall in the east hall, the Lanre hall in the west hall, the scripture collection hall, the Niuju hall and the Jiushi pagoda courtyard. Haichao Temple has beautiful scenery and magnificent momentum.
The Buddha statues in the temple are lifelike; the stone railings are exquisitely crafted. The golden inscriptions on the plaques are dazzling; every couplet is full of interest; the murals and altar tables are antique; the stone inscriptions on the steles record the historical evolution of the temple, and it is a well-preserved ancient building.
