It is located on the side of Sheli Mountain, 17 kilometers northeast of Gaoping County. After the Five Dynasties, it was first built during the reign of Emperor Zhuangzong of the Tang Dynasty and named Qingliangruo. In the Song Dynasty, it was renamed Kaihua Temple and became a famous ancient temple in Shanxi.

The temple enters the second courtyard. The front is the bell tower, the middle is the Daxiong Palace, and the back is the Yanfa Hall, all of which were built in the sixth year of Xining (1073) in the Northern Song Dynasty. There have been repairs in successive dynasties, but the brackets of the Daxiong Palace still maintain the shape of the Song Dynasty. The four walls of the hall are full of Buddhist stories, with fine brushwork and superb skills. They were painted in the third year of Shaosheng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1096).

The steles of the past dynasties in the temple and the three stone tomb towers of eminent monks outside the temple are also well preserved.
