The reserve was established in April 1982, with a total area of 17,000 square kilometers. Rare animals under national protection include Mongolian wild ass, "Przewalski's wild horse", argali, goose-throated antelope (gazelle) and so on.
Today, there are more than 700 Mongolian wild asses and more than 10,000 goose-throated antelopes (gazelles) being the main protected objects here. In addition, there are various "hoofed" rare wild animals such as wild camels, Przewalski's wild horses, argali, and rabbit cats, birds such as kestrels, golden eagles, great bustards, sand grouse, and reptiles such as sand lizards. The degree of reproduction increases.
