Kawagebo Peak is the main peak of Meili Snow Mountain, which means steep white snow peak in the canyon in Tibetan. At an altitude of 6,740 meters, it is said to be the patron saint of Gajuba, a branch of the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism, and ranks first among the eight sacred mountains in Tibetan areas. Meili Snow Mountain has 13 peaks above 6,000 meters above sea level, clustered around the main peak Kawagebo, commonly known as the Thirteen Peaks of Prince Edward. Whenever the weather is fine and the sun rises, thousands of golden lights shine directly on the peaks, and the snow peaks are covered with golden light. This is the "Sunshine Golden Mountain", which is a rare sight that many tourists dream of.

The recommended time to visit Kawagebo Peak is from October to May of the next year. During this period of time, the weather is fine and the visibility is high, and the chance of the sacred mountain being blocked is very low. After entering the rainy season in June and July, it is rare to see the true face, it can only depend on personal luck. There are two good places to take pictures of Kawagebo Peak: Feilai Temple Observation Deck and Deqin Welcome Deck (at the Thirteen White Pagodas). Due to its geographical location, Feilai Temple has developed into a bustling small town with all kinds of inns and restaurants. The grades of hotels range from tens of yuan to thousands of yuan, and you can choose by yourself.

There are many glaciers extending from Meili Snow Mountain, and Mingyong Glacier is located under Kawagebo Peak. Starting from Mingyong Village at the foot of the mountain, walk up the winding mountain road and arrive at the Taizi Temple in about two hours. After a short rest, go up to the Mingyong Glacier Observation Deck, where you can watch the glacier up close and feel the Glacier charm. When you are lucky, you can see the ice avalanche. The large glaciers cannot bear the weight and collapse, making a huge roar, which is very shocking.

It takes about 4 hours to walk up and down the Mingyong Glacier Observation Deck. If you are exhausted, you can rent a horse at the entrance of the mountain road in advance. It is recommended to rent a horse at the entrance. If you are on the way, even if there are free horses, the locals will not rent them to you.

Kawagebo is still an unclimbed peak. Since the beginning of the last century, multinational mountaineering teams have tried to climb to the summit many times, but all failed. Especially in 1991, the Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team encountered an avalanche and killed 17 mountaineering members. In 1996, the Chinese government banned climbing this snow-capped mountain, giving it eternal tranquility.
