Located in the courtyard of Taigu Normal School on the west side of the Boundless Temple in Taigu City, it is a relatively large and well-preserved house with the architectural style of the mid-Qing Dynasty in Taigu City, and it is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.
The house was originally the old residence of Meng Guangyu, a gentry in Taigu. It was first built in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and then gradually expanded.
The house is facing north and south, 91 meters from east to west and 69 meters from north to south, with a total area of 6325 square meters. The existing main courtyard, kitchen courtyard, study courtyard, theater courtyard and Mozhuang courtyard. It consists of multiple horizontally arranged courtyards, each of which is divided into multiple courtyards along the central axis. The courtyards are separated by bright corridors, buildings or halls. The main buildings all use bucket arches and flying rafters, which are beautiful and generous in shape. The wooden part is carved with beams and painted buildings, and the powder is piled up with gold, just like a colorful rainbow. There are vertical flower gates, treasure vase gates and octagonal or crescent gates connecting each courtyard, and the partition walls are decorated with windows of various shapes. The courtyards have different shapes and styles, and the whole is elegant and pure, with a combination of width and fierceness, and appropriate shades, which appear very harmonious.
The main courtyard is a three-entry courtyard, with a magnificent wooden gatehouse, a foyer in the front, open pavilions in the east and west, and an octagonal gate in the east to enter the East First Courtyard. There are two doors in the style of people hanging down, and the hall is in the style of rolling shed. The small doors on both sides of the hall can lead to the study courtyard and the flower viewing hall. There are three official halls facing the hall, with hard mountain-style carved ridges and pillars in front. It is very spacious, and there are doors in the north and south. It is the main hall for receiving guests. The east chamber is named "Sanyoutang" (Youyou, Youwei, Youshou), and the west chamber is named "Sanduotang" (Duofu, Duoshou, Duonan), both of which are residences for concubines.
