Kunming Shaolin Temple is located in the center of Guandu Ancient Town, Guandu District, Kunming City, with the King Kong Pagoda as the core, consisting of the Miaozhan Temple Ancient Building Group, the Legal Temple Ancient Building Group, the Tuzhu Temple Ancient Building Group, the Guanyin Temple Group, and the cultural square around the King Kong Tower It is composed of the meditation hall, lecture hall, chant hall, martial arts hall, museum to be built on the north and west of the ancient building complex of Miaozhan Temple, and Kunming Shaolin Culture International College (formerly Pioneer Middle School) located in Guandu Town.

On November 24, 2008, Guandu District of Kunming City and Songshan Shaolin Temple signed a trusteeship agreement in the Buddhist scripture pavilion of Shaolin Temple. The ancient temple is under trusteeship, and a certain space is given for the inheritance and development of Shaolin culture here. This is the first time in the history of Shaolin Temple that it has managed other temples. The signing of this agreement marks the emergence of "Yunnan Shaolin".
On December 13, 2008, Shaolin will send more than a dozen monks to live in four ancient temples with scriptures and Shaolin Zen, Wu, and Medicine sects.
