　Lanzhou University is a national key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, and one of the key construction universities of the country's "985 Project" and "211 Project". The school was founded in 1909. Its predecessor was the Gansu Law and Politics School established during the New Deal period in the late Qing Dynasty. It marked the beginning of modern higher education in Gansu and opened the precedent for higher education in Northwest China. It was expanded into Lanzhou Sun Yat-sen University in 1928 and named National Lanzhou University in 1945. After the founding of New China, Lanzhou University adhered to the party's education policy, adhered to the correct direction of running schools, developed and grew rapidly, and rose rapidly. In the adjustment of colleges and departments of colleges and universities, it was identified as one of the 14 comprehensive universities in the country; under the guidance of the strategic goals of "developing the Northwest" and "building a strategic rear", it has become an important strategic position in the national higher education structure. In 2002 and 2004, the former Gansu Institute of Grassland Ecology and Lanzhou Medical College were merged into Lanzhou University successively, making the school's disciplines more complete and its comprehensive advantages more prominent, ushering in a period of rapid development in history.
