Lianchi Academy is named after the lotus pond. The ancient lotus pond was first built in 1227-1234 by Zhang Rouchu, the king of Runan in the Yuan Dynasty, and was seriously damaged. It was not until the late Ming Dynasty that a large-scale renovation and expansion was carried out. Lianchi Academy, also known as "Zhili Academy", was founded in the eleventh year of Yongzheng (1733) by Li Wei, then governor of Zhili, and gradually developed into a higher institution in northern China. It existed for 170 years until it ceased operation in 1903. A great man in history came to Lianchi Academy twice and spoke highly of it: "Lianchi is famous because of Lianchi Academy, and Lianchi Academy was very famous all over the country at that time."
