Xiaoxi Lake is located on the east side of the Qili River, between Xijin East Road and Binhe Middle Road. It was originally a garden of Mingsu Wangfu, named "West Garden". Not forgetting the meaning of the hometown, it was renamed "Little West Lake", which is known as one of the eight ancient scenic spots in Lanzhou, also known as "Lianchi Yeyue". Due to historical changes, the original "Little West Lake" garden can no longer be restored. In 1982, in order to restore the ancient cultural sites and balance the urban green space, the Lanzhou Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government built a comprehensive recreational park with local traditional style - Xiaoxihu Park.

The construction of the park strives to follow the layout of the original "Little West Lake", focusing on highlighting the landscape of the gardens on the river, creating a landscape of "borrowing the scenery of Jiuzhou, leaning against the Yellow River, lakes and mountains, and palaces and pavilions". The whole garden is dominated by waterscapes. The entire lake varies in size and well-organized. It is divided into four water surfaces: the east side, the middle lake, the west lake, and the lotus pond in Qiongyao, Xudao. To the east of the lake is a large area of lawn, plant landscaping and adjustable large-scale water curtain lantern fountain; to the north is a tourist rest area, with rose flower wall, Helan chrysanthemum garden, rose flower garden, bamboo forest, cypress terrace and many other flower and tree scenic spots. Orioles are heard in the willow waves on the shore of the lake, and tourists enjoy the coolness, fish and go boating on the lake. A modern 8,000-square-meter open-air swimming pool has been built in the west of the park, which is divided into three parts: a deep pool, a shallow pool and a children's paddling pool. The land is planted with turf, and there are no tables and stools for tourists to rest and entertain.
