Luodong Township is located in Yilan County, with an area of only 11.344 square kilometers. Luodong Township is connected to Dongshan Township to the south, Lanyang Creek to the north, and Wujie Township and Sanxing Township to the east and west respectively. The Luodong area was a forest area before it was developed, especially there are many wild monkeys living in groups in the forest. The place name "Luodong" originated from the fact that the Taiwanese ethnic minorities called the monkey "Laodong". Later, the Han people in the Qing Dynasty reclaimed the Lanyang Plain, so they continued to use the name and called the place "Luodong".
