The Macao Science Museum was designed by well-known architect I.M. Pei. The main body is composed of an inclined cone, a hemisphere and a rhombus-shaped base. The functions of these three parts are exhibition hall, planetarium and conference center respectively. The building's exterior is clad in silver-gray metallic aluminum panels complemented by dark granite. Viewed from a distance, the appearance is very scientific.

The exhibition center is a six-story building with a lobby and a four-story exhibition hall. The top floor is an observation deck. The exhibition is dominated by interactive exhibits that are both informative, scientific and interesting, allowing visitors to enjoy the fun of exploring science from the process of hands-on. The part of the hemispherical design is the Planetarium of the Science Museum. There are multi-functional facilities in the museum, including a 360-degree sky screen theater, which plays different types of dome films and short films related to astronomy. The diamond-shaped base is the conference center, which is a building with one basement and two floors. It has four conference rooms and a multi-functional conference hall, equipped with functions such as simultaneous interpretation.
