Mangcuo is located in Mangling Township in the middle of Mangkang, 90 kilometers away from the county seat, 60 kilometers north of National Highway 214, with an altitude of 4313 meters and a lake area of more than 20 square kilometers. Mangcuo is a plateau lake at the source of Cuolongmenqu, a secondary tributary of the Jinsha River, and is the largest plateau lake in the Hengduan Mountains.
The lake is 7.2 kilometers long, 2.5 kilometers wide on average, and about 21 meters deep. There are two stone islands, Duique and Duiqiong. The mountains around the lake basin are composed of purple-red sandstone, and the interior of the lake basin is relatively gentle. There are swamp meadows distributed at the northern exit of the lake, which are good pastures. The lake area has a humid and semi-humid climate in mountainous coniferous forests. There are plateau Schizothorax inhabiting and aquatic plants growing in the lake.
