Mangkang County is located in the southeast of the autonomous region, east of Qamdo City, at the intersection of Tibet, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, between 98°00′-99°05′ east longitude and 28°37′-30°20′ north latitude. It is adjacent to Batang County of Sichuan Province in the east, Deqin County of Yunnan Province in the south, Zuogong County in the west, and Gongjue County and Chaya County in the north. Mangkang means "good and wonderful region" in Tibetan. In 2014, Mangkang County had a total area of ​​11,431 square kilometers, governing 2 towns and 14 townships (including one ethnic township). The main tourist attractions include the Ancient Tea Horse Road, Mangkang Yunnan Golden Monkey Nature Reserve, Mang Co Scenic Area and Niguo Temple.
