Maoling Mausoleum is the mausoleum of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty Liu Che in the Western Han Dynasty. It was completed in 53 years from 139 BC to 87 BC. The mausoleum is tall and majestic, with a square cone shape, known as the "Oriental Pyramid". So far, the earth queries on the east, west and north sides still exist. Around the Maoling Mausoleum, there are more than 20 accompanying tombs of Mrs. Li, Wei Qing, Huo Qubing, Huo Guang, Jin Ridun, etc., scattered all over the place, which is very spectacular. Maoling has been stolen many times in history, and most of the cultural relics unearthed here today come from various accompanying tombs in the cemetery.
The cemetery at that time was divided into inner and outer cities, surrounded by walls (now it no longer exists). Maoling is surrounded by tombs of concubines, maids of honor, and relatives of meritorious officials. Many cultural relics have been found in this area, such as the exquisite sapphire head shop with animal face pattern, the steel rhinoceros statue with cloud pattern mixed with gold and silver, as well as large hollow bricks and word tiles with red bird pattern, dragon pattern and geometric pattern. In 1981, precious cultural relics such as gilded bronze horses, gilded and silvered bamboo joint smokers, and copper heaters with chains were unearthed in the Maoling East Burial Tomb. Today, tourists can see these cultural relics in museums in Maoling.
National treasure-level stone carvings can also be seen in the museum, especially among which "Horse Stepping on the Huns" and "Leaping Horse" are the most precious. In the image of "Horse Stepping on the Huns", the horse holds its head majestically, and its four hooves firmly step on a Hun; "Prancing Horse", the back of the horse lies on the ground, and the front stretches upwards. The stone under the horse's neck has not been finely chiseled away, and the overall stone supports the beauty of the leaping horse even more.
