On the vast grassland, there is a five-kilometer-long sand mountain made of quartz feldspar. The mountain is northeast-southwest, slow in the west and steep in the east. There is a small river winding through at the foot. When people slide down from the top of the sand mountain, they can hear the sound from the inside of the mountain, like ten thousand horses galloping, and the tide is raging, hence the name Mingsha mountain.
Mingsha Mountain in Hami has the loudest sand sounds, topping the three major sand sounds in China (Mingsha Mountain in Dunhuang, Gansu, Shapotou, Zhongwei County, Ningxia, and Xiangshawan, Baotou, Inner Mongolia). There is a local folk legend: When the female general Fan Lihua of the Tang Dynasty led troops to conquer the west, a battalion of female soldiers encountered the enemy. The battle was fierce. The corpses of the soldiers were all buried on the sand hill, and the ghosts were unyielding, and the shouts of fighting often came from the bottom of the sand hill. According to this legend, people named this scenic spot "Shashan Tibetan Camp".
Many years ago, archaeologists unearthed ancient weapons, saddles, and bones from the sandy bottom. It is said that this is the place where soldiers and soldiers met in ancient times. Once a general led 500 strong men in a bloody battle with the Huns, and the whole army died here.
