Namtso Sacred Elephant Tianmen is located in Village 5, Qinglong Township, Bange County, Nagqu Prefecture, on Chadorangka Island in the north of the holy lake Namtso.
Legend has it that in the eighth century A.D., Master Rinpoche, who was invited by the Tibetan king Chisong Detsen to go to Tibet to promote the Dharma, surrendered Nyenchen Tanglha, betrothed Namtso to Nyenchen Tanglha, and became a couple. A grand wedding ceremony was held on Langka Island. The night before the wedding, 108 gods spent one night to build a stone gate. The stone gate is shaped like a sacred elephant from northeast to southwest. It is specially built for the aisle of Nyainchen Tangla Mountain. , People call this Shimen the Holy Elephant Tianmen.
Holy Elephant Tianmen is the famous Chadonanka Island on the north coast of Namtso. From the mountain, the lake shoreline of Namtso forms two arcs. In the middle of the arcs stands a huge rock, which looks like an elephant from a close look.
