Namtso, Tibetan means: Tianhu, is one of the three holy lakes in Tibetan areas. Namtso has a vast area and is the second largest saltwater lake in my country except Qinghai Lake. The continuous snow-capped mountains on the south bank of the lake are the Nyainqentanglha Mountains. When the wind is sunny, the majestic snow-capped mountains are reflected in the lake, making them look peaceful and peaceful.
Namtso Lake
Namtso means in Mongolian: Tengger Sea. According to legend, it is the dojo of Shengle King Kong, the deity of Tantric Buddhism, and is a well-known holy place of Tibetan Buddhism. Every year in the Year of the Goat, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Dharma protectors will set up altars in Namtso to hold a Dharma assembly. If believers go to worship at this time, turning around the lake to chant scriptures once is better than going to the lake to chant scriptures once, which is better than going to the lake to chant scriptures 100,000 times at ordinary times. Therefore, in the Year of the Goat, monks and lay believers will go to Zhuanhu Lake even if they travel long distances. Every year during the Saga Dawa Festival on April 15th in the Tibetan calendar, there are many monks and laymen who come to Namtso to turn around the lake.
Namtso Day Tour
Many travel agencies in downtown Lhasa offer one-day tours to Namtso, usually departing in the morning, arriving in 3-4 hours, and returning on the same road after 2-3 hours of play. If you don't want to charter a car, you can only choose this way, which is also the conventional way to play Namtso. If you don’t want to follow the crowd, you can charter a car or find someone to carpool in Lhasa. The route is the same, but the advantage is that you can travel freely and stay overnight by the lake.
Coming out of Dangxiong County, passing through the Nagenla Mountain Pass at an altitude of 5,190 meters, you can see the blue water from a distance. There are two huge stones standing side by side on the left and one right by the lake. They are the welcome stones of Namtso, also known as the husband and wife stones. It is said that they are the door gods of Namtso. According to legend, Namtso is the goddess who is in charge of the wealth of the grasslands in northern Tibet. If traders want to go out to do business, they must first come here to pray for the blessing of the goddess to ensure a prosperous business. Therefore, this stone is also called the God of Wealth Stone.
There are a number of prefabricated houses built next to the Tashi Peninsula, including restaurants and inns. This is the place where board and lodging are provided by the Namtso Lake. If you come to Namtso by chartered car, you can stay here for one night. You can enjoy the beauty of the setting sun at dusk, or get up early to welcome the sunrise on the Tashi Peninsula, and look up at the sky at the Namtso Lake in the middle of the night, and you can even distinguish the outline of the Milky Way.

1. The altitude of Namtso is high, the temperature is very low in the morning and evening, and the ultraviolet rays on the lakeside are strong. When traveling in Namtso, remember to bring warm clothes, sunscreen products and related anti-high anti-drugs. Especially when you get up early to watch the sunrise, climb the hillside of the Tashi Peninsula, don't run fast, but walk slowly.
2. To go to Namtso, you have to go through the 5190-meter Nagenla Pass. The climate on the plateau is unstable, and the Nagenla Pass is often covered with ice and snow, and the road will be closed at this time. Therefore, before chartering a car to Namtso, it is recommended to confirm whether it is possible to pass before starting.
3. There are a lot of wild dogs on the banks of Namtso Lake. If you go to the lakeside to watch the starry sky at night, it is recommended not to bring snacks, so as not to attract wild dogs to gather due to the smell.
4. The accommodation conditions on the lakeside of Namtso Lake are average, and most of them are relatively simple board houses. There is basically no air-conditioning in the room, but there are electric blankets. There are very few standard rooms with private bathrooms. If you live by the lake, you must be mentally prepared.
