Ningji Lake is located in Shanglaxiu Township, Yushu County, about 60 kilometers away from Jiegu Town, Yushu County, with an altitude of about 4,200 meters, a lake surface of more than 90 square kilometers, and a depth of about 30 meters. The lake has a high degree of salinity and is a saltwater lake. The lake is rich in plateau naked carp. In spring and summer, bar-headed geese, fish gulls, red shelducks, whooper swans, black-necked cranes and other birds hatch their eggs and brood here.
Ningji Lake is clear and emerald, like a beautiful bright environment inlaid deep in the green hills, surrounded by cattle, sheep and tents, the scenery is very attractive. Legend has it that on the fifteenth night of the Tibetan calendar, there is a wonderful sound of musical instruments coming from the lake. The local people regard this lake as the holy lake of Tara Bodhisattva, and hold sacrificial activities in July and August every year.
