Established in 1987, the Insect Museum of Northwest A&F University is part of the Yangling Expo Park. The museum is divided into four parts: collection, exhibition, scientific research and affiliated institutions.
The collection part contains more than 1.2 million specimens of various insects at home and abroad, and is an important preservation base for insect species diversity. The research part includes the Institute of Entomology of the Ministry of Agriculture, the doctoral program of entomology, the research and development site of insect resources of Yangling University of Agriculture and Forestry, experimental studios and libraries, etc. The Insect Expo has 3 affiliated institutions, which run the journals "Journal of Insect Taxonomy" and "Chinese Butterfly".
The exhibition part is currently the world's largest insect science popularization base with rich exhibits. Visitors can learn about a world of insects full of wonders through rich specimens, physical objects, photoelectric models, and phantom imaging. The basic display of the exhibition part includes 5 exhibition halls and a butterfly garden.
The World Famous Butterfly Exhibition Area in the museum exhibits thousands of rare butterflies such as the world’s precious Brazilian Morpho butterfly, China’s national butterfly Swallowbill, and Malaysia’s national butterfly Red-necked Birdwing.
The Butterfly Garden is a large-scale net room structure. There are a large number of butterfly visiting plants and host plants planted in the garden. From May to October, the flowers in the garden are blooming and butterflies are flying.
