Bajiao City is located on the platform where the Yangqu River and Yangla River meet in the east of Ganga Beach, Xiahe County. It is named for its eight city corners. In ancient times, it was the hub of transportation between Gansu and Qinghai, and it was also an important military town where the central government of all dynasties competed fiercely with the Tuyuhun, Tubo, Xixia and Siluo dynasties.
The outline of the Bajiao City is a hollow cross shape. There are moats, moats, and outlines outside the city, and there is an outer city outside the south gate. Castles of this shape are rare in the history of our country and have high archaeological and ornamental value. The city was built in the Han Dynasty, and the architectural form broke through the square pattern, which is very unique. Although the city is not small, the distance between the corners of the city is within the effective range of bows and crossbows, which can complement each other, so it is easy to defend but difficult to attack.
A large number of cultural relics have been unearthed in Bajiao City, such as metal coins, copper bulls, square bricks, simple tiles, and plate tiles from the Tang and Song Dynasties. In addition, on the flat land, hills, and terraces around Bajiao City, there are layers of terraced fields that were abandoned in ancient times. In some places, the terraced fields have been built to the top of the mountain.
