Fenghuang Town is located on the southern slope of the Qinling Mountains, surrounded by mountains and rivers, where the Shechuan River, Zao River, and Shuidigou River converge to form a delta. It was named "Sanchahekou" in Tang and Song Dynasties, "Shechuanhe Township Capital" in Yuan Dynasty, "Shechuanli" and "Shangmengli" after 15 years of Chenghua in Ming Dynasty (AD 1479), and was renamed "Shangmengli" in Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. Phoenix Mouth", which was renamed "Fenghuang Town" in 1941 until now.
The curving streets of Fenghuang Town Old Street and the old houses of Ming and Qing Dynasties scattered on both sides are the distinctive features here. The traditional handmade papermaking and forging here still follow the old pattern. In this ancient town, which is more than 2,000 meters long from east to west, there are still more than 60 folk houses from the Ming and Qing Dynasties intact. Along the main street there is a creek covered with stone slabs, and another creek perpendicular to it passes through the town, forming a cross-shaped water system.
There are pavements on both sides of the old street, and houses behind the pavements. The gate facing the street is generally made of strong and wear-resistant walnut wood or lacquered wood boards, stained with earth lacquer, clean and bright; the gate piers are carved with stone flowers.
The wooden houses in Fenghuang Town are relatively small, exquisite and reasonable in design, and have good performance in preventing rain, moisture, and fire. Compared with traditional northern houses, they have many characteristics of southern houses. Walking on the old streets of Fenghuang Town, you will clearly feel the difference between the buildings on the old streets and the folk houses in Guanzhong. From the appearance, it looks more like Huizhou folk houses, with white walls and blue tiles, decorations on both sides of the roof ridge, lotus or plum blossom in the middle, and animal spines or dragon heads on both sides. Many houses have three entrances and three openings, and the three courtyards rise up layer by layer. This design is more suitable for the excess Shannan, which is convenient for drainage.
There are many silk mills in Fenghuang Town, and the silk products here are made of local silk. The ancient industry of blacksmithing is still preserved.
