The Pingliang City Museum was formerly known as the Pingliang Regional Museum, which was established in 1979. It is located on the pagoda beam of the former site of Yan'en Temple in the Zijin City of King Han in the Ming Dynasty. As a national public welfare cultural institution, it is affiliated to the Pingliang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, Press and Publishing. Its main functions are social education, cultural relic collection research, exhibition and archaeological excavation. There are more than 11,565 collections of more than ten types, including bronze wares, ceramic wares, gold and silver wares, jade wares, stele murals and calligraphy, painting and shadow puppets, among which 842 are national precious cultural relics. It is a comprehensive historical and cultural museum. Opened to the public in 2008, it receives nearly 1,000 visitors a day and about 300,000 visitors a year.
