Qingliang Temple was first built in the Yuan Dynasty, with simple architecture, high cultural relics and artistic value, and a small scale. It is still one of the key cultural relics protection units in the country. This is because there are 11 painted Bodhisattva statues in the temple.
Painted statues of Bodhisattvas are offered in the Hall of Seven Buddhas. The building of the Hall of Seven Buddhas is majestic and reasonable in structure, and the exquisite partitions and lattice flowers are still well preserved, showing the characteristics of the times when it was rebuilt during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. On the Buddha platform in the main hall, there are tall "Horizontal Buddhas", that is, the Medicine Buddha of the Eastern Jingliuli World, the Amitabha Buddha of the Western Ultimate Bliss World, and the Sakyamuni Buddha of the Posa World in the middle. There are four Bodhisattvas, Manjusri, Samantabhadra, Avalokitesvara, and Mahasthama.
The 11 painted sculptures in the hall are beautiful in shape and superb in technique. Even the eight little Hercules statues on the Sumeru Seat are vividly sculpted, and the small pattern ornaments on the Buddha Seat are all exquisitely carved. Its highly realistic techniques and strong artistic appeal are comparable to the painted sculptures of Shuanglin Temple, which is known as the "treasure house of oriental painted sculpture art".
