As one of the oldest and only relatively complete Russian-style buildings in Tacheng City, the Red House has a history of nearly a hundred years. At present, it is the office land of Tacheng Newspaper, and it is a cultural relic protection unit at the autonomous region level.
The Red House was built in 1910, the second year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty, by Remazan Kanishev, a Tatar businessman originally from Russia. It covers an area of 885 square meters and is divided into upper and lower floors. There are 16 large and small houses in total, with ceiling floors, iron roofs, door frames and window lattices, all of which are decorated with exquisite patterns. The walls facing the street are all light red, so people call it "Red Building".
After the Red Building was completed and put into use, Remazan Kannyshev managed bulk local products and import and export trade here, and it became the center of Tacheng's import and export trade at that time. Many firms in Dihua (Urumqi) also came to set up here agencies.
In 1933, Sheng Shicai arrested Remazan Kanishev on trumped-up charges, the Red House was confiscated and turned into a hospital; later the Red House was returned to the original owner. Not long after the son of Remazan Kannyshev took over the Red House, he donated it and it is still used as a hospital. Later, the red building was successively converted into the office building of the regional administrative agency, the guest house, and the office buildings of the agricultural department of the administrative office. In 1985, the Red Building was designated as the office building of Tacheng Newspaper.
In recent years, many film and television directors in China have made a special trip to Tacheng and put it on the screen, allowing hundreds of millions of viewers to see it. Many foreign tourists will also come to Tacheng to visit it.
