The Red Mountain Pagoda is located at the peak of the Red Mountain (now in the Red Mountain Park) on the north side of the West Bridge in Urumqi, corresponding to the Yamalik Mountain Brick Pagoda.
The Hongshan Pagoda is 10.6 meters high and is a solid pagoda of green bricks with six sides and nine levels. The west side of the tower is a cliff, shaped like a toad with its head raised; the east side is the extension of Hongshan from east to west; the north and south sides are steep slopes. The Hongshan Pagoda consists of three parts: the tower base, the tower body and the tower brake. The plane is hexagonal. The tower base is 1 meter high, and each side is 2.26 meters long; the tower body is about 0.9 meters high between each level. The eaves of the tower are folded and astringent, and the points are more obvious. The brick tower building has a rigorous structure, beautiful shape and is quite solidly built. After more than 200 years of wind and rain, the Hongshan Pagoda stands intact on the top of the cliff, which can be called a must in Urumqi.
"Pagoda Reflecting the Sunset" is the first peculiar sight among the eight old sights in Urumqi. Whenever the setting sun shines in the west, the cliffs of Hutou Peak are shining red, and the whole peak radiates red light, just like a precious light in mythology, or like a fairyland in Yaochi moving to Red Mountain. In the afterglow of the setting sun, the shadow of the Hongshan Pagoda is slanted and long, showing a charming style, so it is called "the tower reflects the sunset". Visiting Hongshan Pagoda, as Meng Haoran of the Tang Dynasty sang: "Personnel and affairs are metabolized, and the exchanges make the past and the present. There are scenic spots in the mountains and rivers, and we will visit them again."
