Riyue Mountain is located on the road from Huangyuan to Qinghai Lake, and it is also the only way for Qinghai to enter Tibet. It is said that when Princess Wencheng entered Tibet, she broke a stone mirror here that could not see her hometown, and divided it into two petals, the sun and the moon. There is a small peak on both sides of the pass of Riyue Mountain, and there are two landmark buildings, the Riting Pavilion and the Yueting Pavilion.

Tourists usually pass by Riyue Mountain when traveling from Xining to Qinghai Lake. The grasslands here are lush, the mountains are rolling, and there are many prayer flags fluttering in the mountains. The scenery is very beautiful. It is not necessary to enter the scenic spot on the mountain. The Sun Pavilion and Moon Pavilion in the scenic spot are antique buildings, not historic sites, and the exterior can also be seen from the mountain pass. There are also services such as riding yaks and taking pictures in Tibetan clothes in the scenic area, all of which need to be paid separately, and some people buy souvenirs, but the price is not affordable, so it is not recommended to buy. Tourists only need to take photos on the mountainside when they pass by Riyue Mountain.

In addition, Riyue Mountain is the dividing line between the agricultural area and the pastoral area, monsoon and non-monsoon, and is also the westernmost edge of the Loess Plateau. When passing through the mountain pass, the geographical landscapes on the east and west sides are completely different and wonderful.
