Salawusu Tourist Area is located in Wudinghe Town, Wushen Banner, Ordos City, and is connected to the Northern Shaanxi Plateau. The Salawusu River meanders from the northwest and makes a slight bend here, forming two connected bays. It is said that a Mongolian family named Batu once lived here long ago, hence the name Batu Bay. Due to years of cutting and eroding the river, the Salawusu River channel is deep and wide, and the Salawusu River Basin is densely populated. People raise fish, plant bell and fruit trees, and grow rice, making this place a "land of fish and rice" in Ordos. The tourist area is dominated by scenic spots such as the Batuwan Reservoir and Hetao People's Cultural Site. On one side of the tourist area is the Loess Plateau and on the other side is the Mu Us Desert.
The Batuwan Hydropower Station is an important tourist spot of the Batuwan Reservoir. On the high rocks, green trees sway, and a waterfall cascades down, which is very spectacular; There are several stone turtles along the coast, lined up in sequence, crouching with their heads shrunk, and the locals call them Zhensha turtles.
Rafting on the water surface of Batu Bay can extend for 20 kilometers. There are precious wild giant Chinese soft-shelled turtles in the water, and there are many kinds of fish such as big whitebait, carp, and white striped fish. Taking the "Mingzhu" painting boat, you can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery on both sides of the reservoir area.
There are also rich cultural landscapes in the Batu Bay area. Going back 30 kilometers along the Wuding River from Batu Bay, you can reach Dagou Bay, the birthplace of "Hetao people"; about 5 kilometers eastward from Batu Bay, there is a historical site Tongwan City, the capital of Daxia, also known as Baichengzi. Batu Bay is an old revolutionary base area, and the story of the Batu Bay guerrillas is still widely circulated.
